The 21st Century as the “Asian Language Century”

Many analysts and observers have predicted that the 21st Century will be the “Asian Century.” By 2030, Asia will account for 53 per cent of the world’s population, 50 per cent of the world’s GDP, 64 per cent of the global middle class, and over 40 per cent of global middle-class consumption.

China, in particular, has surged onto the world stage as its rising economic, political, and military strength continues to shape the Asia Pacific region and the world beyond.

It is no surprise that Asian language skills are becoming more vital than ever for businesses and governments. One of the most in-demand foreign languages is Mandarin Chinese. In 2014, there were over 100 million foreign speakers and learners of Mandarin around the world. This number is expected to increase as more and more businesses realize the untapped market opportunity beyond the big, cosmopolitan cities like Beijing and Shanghai – cities where English-language capability should not necessarily be taken for granted.

And as China continues to reduce the importance of English language education in its own schools, the need for Mandarin-speakers outside of China will grow even more.

Online Learning

Students today are no longer confined to the classroom as online learning platforms continue to grow worldwide.
Benefits of online learning go beyond convenience and some find online environment more conducive to their learning styles.
If you are a motivated self-starter who enjoys online interaction through social media sites,e-mail and other interactive means, online learning might be the right fit for you.Online learning is not limited to the students in the Universities itself-it provides opportunities for working adults to obtain a tertiary education. In time, the demand for a workforce with additional qualifications becomes a need for employers and individuals to pursue courses online.
The Online Distance Learning (ODL) model has been initiated to go along with that need. ODL provides educational opportunities that are not limited to the time and space constraints of traditional classes.
Anyone with access to the Internet can log on to ODL on the computer, tablet or smartphone and learn anywhere at any time and at a pace that suits them. This is appropriate for students who are already in the workforce in locations where appropriate education is inaccessible or who need to maintain flexible learning schedule.
